Pupils of Kembos Group of Schools, Isolo, Lagos, have been advised not
to sacrifice their education in pursuit of sports. The chairman of the
school's inter-house sports, Mr. Vincent Ukoh, said this during the
school's inter-house sports. He also called on parents not to discourage
their sports- inclined children but they must encourage them to excel
in them.
He said, "Pupils who want to pursue a career in sports must first of all
acquire education; it would make them to be in a better position, even
after they had quit active sports to do other things." Ukoh who cited
some educated sport personalities including two former Super Eagles'
strikers, Mr. Segun Odegbami and Mr. Adokie Amiesiamaka, urged the
pupils to emulate them. He said, "Sport is part of the school
curriculum, and many pupils who participate in sporting activities
record improvement in their academic performance."
